Missouri Unemployment Rules

The Missouri unemployment rules for individuals needing to file a claim are outlined on their website at http://www.ui.dolir.mo.gov/.  The website provides individuals with information on how and where to file a claim, as well as what happens when a claim is filed or denied.

Missouri unemployment benefits claims can be filed online, by phone, or at a regional office.  The website gives the hours and services available.  It gives the rules for filing the claim, for accessing the benefits payments, and for appeal rights.

One rule is how to file a weekly claim.  Weekly certifications or claims must be made each week even if the unemployment insurance department is looking into the wages you claimed.  Weekly certifications must be filed within 14 days from the Saturday you claim.  If you wait longer than 14 days, you could be denied benefits.

The website contains the rules on filing a claim, how your benefits are figured, what the waiting week means, how and when you will be paid, and how to renew a claim.  The site also gives the rules on appeal rights on denied claims, work search requirements, working and filing a claim, overpayment, and contact information.  The rules on other income, out of state, military and federal work income, extended benefits and taxes on benefits, as well as your privacy rights are also discussed.

The rules on getting paid are discussed in detail.  Basically, you receive a benefit payment once a claim has been filed at week’s end, including the first week you start a claim.  The claim week starts on Sunday and ends on Saturday.  The first weekly claim filed is the waiting week.  The waiting week is payable only when your claim balance is equal to or less than the benefit amount you’re eligible for during the week.

The Missouri Unemployment Rules are clearly stated on their website and in the pamphlets sent to individuals filing a claim.
