Missouri Unemployment Application

Unemployment Insurance programs provide money for workers who lose their job involuntarily.  It’s important that workers fill out a Missouri unemployment application as soon as possible to ensure they will receive benefits.  If a claimant is eligible, they may be qualified for up to 26 weeks of unemployment benefits according to the Missouri program for regular unemployment benefits.  The amount of benefits you receive depends on the wages paid during your base period.  This is the 12-month period consisting of the first four of the last five finished calendar quarters before the start date of your claim.

You can file for Missouri unemployment over the Internet by using the Internet claim filing system, which is available 24 hours a day.  There is no charge for this service.  The online application for Missouri unemployment requires that other computer records be brought up.  You must enter personal information for identification purposes such as your Social Security number and birth date.  Always delete all your information if you stop the filing process for any reason.  You can also file a claim by using the telephone filing system.  You need to call from a touch-tone phone to apply this way.  Your initial claim or reopened claim will be effective on the Sunday of the week it’s filed.

After you submit a Missouri unemployment application, it will be determined if you’re eligible.  If everything shows you’re eligible, then you should receive your first payment in about 18 to 20 days.  If there is a reason why you can’t receive benefits or any issues that need to be resolved, a questionnaire to fill out or a notice for a telephone interview will be sent to you.  After issues are taken care of and determination for eligibility is decided, you’ll usually receive a payment the next working day after your weekly certification is received.
